For years Coconut Oil has been known as a saturated fat and we should stay away from it. However, the coconut oil is probably the most nutritious part of the coconut. It has antimicrobial, antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. It is also high in antioxidants so it will help you absorb other nutrients.  There are thousands of ways to use it and lots of natural remedies for it, but I've listed just a few below:

  • Weight Loss – because it is a medium chain fatty acid, it is easy digested and it is converted into energy quickly which boosts our metabolism, which help with weight loss and burn fat for energy.  Put some in your morning smoothie or green drink.
  • Moisturizer/Anti-Aging – applying onto the skin it moisturizers and softens and protects the skin from free radicals and help us look younger and less tired. This can replace any store bought body lotion which probably contains loads of chemicals that is not good for our health. And it smells great, reminds me of the beach.
  • Hormone Balancer – it helps support the thyroid and adrenal glands which can lower cortisol to help balance your hormones. Cortisol is the hormone that kicks in high gear when you are stressed. This hormone gives women the most problem with weight gain, especially after age 40.
  • Digestive Support – it’s easy to digest so it doesn’t strain your system and gets rid of bad bacteria in your gut and promote the growth of good bacteria.
  • Cholesterol Support – these healthy fats increase HDL (good) cholesterol and lower LDL (bad) cholesterol.
  • Cooking - it is a great oil for cooking as it can with stand high heat and not go rancid like some other healthy oils.  Saute some veggies in it, you will love it.

Choosing Your Coconut Oil

Buy the unrefined coconut oil, organic when possible.  Remember, this will solidify in colder temperatures but will melt when heated.
